While the origins of the tradition are not fully understood, the beauty of a handpainted oar is known to all who have seen them and aspired to earn the right to one.

I came to paint trophy oars by chance while pursuing my other rowing interests and now I offer my art to all via this website. It is a hobby that has grown out of control as I have been asked by more and more rowers on the banks of the Yarra River to create a work for them. It is not a business for commercial gain, rather a cottage industry born of a desire to share my skill in rowing with all who might appreciate it. I have even designed many rowing related t-shirts which are sold around the world and I now make rowing safety lights.

Please use this site for not simply organising to purchase an oar. Instead use it as a window into the history and art of the trophy oar and the other areas of rowing competition and history that lay behind its origins and future. I hope you enjoy your visit and feel free to contact me with any ideas, comments or suggestions on what is a new and unproven website.

PS - I am not taking any orders at present. We have just moved overseas for work and there is not enough room in my tiny Hong Kong apartment to fit an oar. I will consider any job, but it must be either very exciting or very expensive!

5 blades painted for Mercantile RC to celebrate the Athens Olympic win of James Tomkins and Drew Ginn.	James and Drew make the artist feel as short as he is! The blades are to be used for fundraising for the Mercantile Club.
